The Imperial City prepares for an unprecedented tourism boom this November. The Cusco Chamber of Commerce released positive forecasts today. They project that local Cusco hotel occupancy will reach a staggering 95%. This massive surge coincides with the upcoming apostolic visit of Pope Leo XIV.
Massive Influx of Pilgrims and Economic Windfall
Local business leaders estimate that 50,000 visitors will arrive in Cusco for the papal events. This crowd includes domestic pilgrims and international travelers. These visitors will inject more than 77 million soles into the regional economy.
The highest demand concentrates heavily in the historic center and nearby districts. Hotels, restaurants, and local artisan shops will benefit directly from this spending. To guarantee public order, authorities will deploy over 3,000 police officers across the city. This massive security operation will protect worshippers and residents at all public venues.
High Regional Expectations and Official Guidance
PromPerú shared optimistic national figures regarding the entire papal tour. The agency estimates that 800,000 visitors will participate across Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa. Around 50,000 international tourists will enter the country between November 11 and 16. Most foreign travelers will cross borders from Colombia, Ecuador, and Chile.
The government actively promotes the “Ruta del Papa” campaign. Authorities encourage pilgrims to extend their stay and explore southern cultural sites. Because Cusco hotel occupancy will soon hit full capacity, tourism boards advise travelers to book lodging immediately. Local travel agencies also recommend securing certified guided services well in advance.
