The Humantay Lake altitude is approximately 4,200 meters (13,780 feet). The weather is unpredictable and can change quickly; be prepared for cold, dry winds. We strongly advise spending at least two days in Cusco before the tour to acclimatize. The hike is considered challenging due to the altitude and steepness of the trail. Our guides are trained to manage the pace for your safety and enjoyment. This day trek also serves as an excellent acclimatization experience for those embarking on longer journeys, such as The Heart of the Andes multi-day expedition.
It's considered moderate to challenging, primarily due to the high altitude and the steep but short ascent (1.5-2 hours). We manage the pace to suit you.
The dry season (May to October) offers the clearest skies and best trail conditions. However, the tour is available and beautiful year-round.
Due to the altitude and challenging nature of the hike, we recommend this tour for teenagers and adults. Please contact us to discuss options for younger adventurers.
We specialize in private and small-group experiences, typically from 2 to 10 people, ensuring a personal and intimate journey.
Absolutely. We can arrange a private Humantay Lake tour for a completely personalized experience.
Our guides are high-altitude specialists. While they carry oxygen and a first-aid kit for safety, their true value lies in their expertise. They know how to set a physiological pace and expertly monitor your well-being, transforming a potential challenge into a safe and triumphant experience
A good level of general fitness is required. The main challenge is the altitude rather than the distance. Proper acclimatization is the most important factor.
Your safety is our priority. If you are struggling, your guide will assess the situation. You can return to the starting point with a team member if necessary.
The horses cover a significant portion of the ascent but cannot go all the way to the lake's edge. A short, final walking section is always required.
Restrooms are available at the restaurant in Mollepata. Basic facilities may be available at the trailhead. There are no facilities along the hiking route itself.
We recommend booking at least a few weeks in advance, especially during the high season (June-August), to ensure availability.
We use modern, comfortable, and private vehicles (SUVs or vans, depending on group size) to ensure a pleasant and safe journey.
Yes. Please inform us of any dietary requirements (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.) at the time of booking, and we will gladly arrange a suitable meal.

They provide extra stability on the steep and sometimes slippery terrain, reducing the strain on your knees, especially during the descent.
Yes. Even on a sunny day, the wind at 4,200 meters can be freezing. It's essential to have warm layers you can easily put on or take off.
We have prepared a complete guide with essential tips for this expedition to help you prepare.
