The Peruvian capital recently achieved a major milestone in the international events sector. Lima MICE tourism grew by an impressive 67.4% during 2025. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) released its latest official rankings. Lima now holds the second spot in Latin America and the third place across the entire continent.

Record Breaking Economic Impact

The meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sector generated massive revenue. Peru hosted a record-breaking 93 international congresses last year. Lima alone organized 72 of these major events. Together, these gatherings injected over US$171 million directly into the national economy.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, business travelers spend heavily. An average international visitor spends US$1,321 per trip. This number easily surpasses traditional vacation budgets. Furthermore, nearly 40% of these professionals return later for leisure trips. This steady flow of visitors heavily benefits local hotels, restaurants, and transport companies. If you track regional economic trends, this success mirrors the recent Peru tourism growth 2026 driven by neighboring countries.

Award-Winning Destination Management

The global industry officially recognized this rapid expansion. The Lima Convention Bureau recently won the ICCA Latin America 2026 Award. They claimed the top prize in the Destination Management category. This award highlights their strong leadership and international promotion strategies.

Public and private sectors work closely together to attract new global events. The city offers excellent infrastructure and specialized services for large crowds. Upcoming events include Expoalimentaria Peru, Expo China, and The World’s 50 Best Restaurants ceremony. The local bureau expects to host at least nine more international congresses before the year ends. Officials hope to use this momentum to showcase the local gastronomy and culture worldwide.
