Pope Leo XIV will travel to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru from November 6 to November 17, 2026. The Holy See press office director, Matteo Bruni, confirmed the official schedule. This tour marks the most extensive trip of his pontificate so far.
An Extensive Regional Itinerary
The journey begins in Uruguay from November 6 to 8. The Pontiff will then visit Argentina between November 8 and 11. Finally, he will conclude his mission in Peru from November 11 to 17. Across these three nations, the papal entourage will stop in ten different cities.
Religious travel already mobilizes around 80 million people annually throughout the region. Industry experts expect this specific tour to shatter previous attendance records. The high influx of pilgrims will stimulate regional airlines, hospitality businesses, and local transport networks.
Peru Expects Massive Economic Impact
Peru prepares for an extraordinary influx of travelers. The National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) estimates the visit will mobilize up to 1.5 million people. This massive number includes domestic pilgrims and international travelers from neighboring countries.
The Pope holds strong personal ties to Peru. Though born in the United States, he gained Peruvian citizenship after decades of dedicated missionary work. He also served as the bishop of Chiclayo for several years. His national itinerary includes major events in Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco, and Pucallpa.
