Inspectors need to verify if recent rehabilitation works successfully restored trail safety. Tour operators highlighted specific dangerous sections between Ayapata and Llulluchapampa. They also warned about unstable terrain near the Huayruro River. Experts fear potential landslides in these sensitive zones. The government refuses to allow visitors back without absolute certainty. Industry Worries and Available Alternatives
This sudden delay worries local tourism operators deeply. Guides, porters, and cooks depend heavily on the classic trekking routes for income. Travel agencies argue that the lack of a clear timeline complicates tour planning. They fear mass cancellations from international clients.
Despite these industry complaints, the government maintains a firm stance on safety. While officials evaluate the main network, they keep alternative options open. Route 5, known as the Chachabamba path, remains fully operational. Hikers can access this trail through specific entry points along the railway.
