Route Description:

Ollantaytambo:

Km.104 – Chachabamba:

Chachabamba to Wiñay Wayna:

On the second day of our 2-day Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, we will rise early. We will embark on a day filled with exploration and wonder. This day focuses on visiting the majestic Machu Picchu, the crown jewel of Incan civilization. We ensure an experience that merges adventure with cultural immersion, set against the backdrop of breathtaking Andean landscapes.

Distance Covered: The journey from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu involves a short bus ride. This will be followed by walking within the site. We will be covering a total distance of approximately 2 to 4 kilometers (1.2 to 2.5 miles).

Highest Altitude: Machu Picchu itself sits at an elevation of 2,430 meters (7,972 feet). It is nestles high in the Andean mountains.

Lowest Altitude: Aguas Calientes, our starting point, is located at about 2,040 meters (6,690 feet) above sea level.

Level of Difficulty: The exploration of Machu Picchu is considered easy to moderate. This however depends on how much of the site we decide to explore.

Route Description:

Aguas Calientes: 

Our day begins with an early start from Aguas Calientes. This is to ensure we are among the first to enter Machu Picchu. This allows us to experience the site in the tranquil beauty of morning light, free from the crowds.

Machu Picchu:

Upon arrival at Machu Picchu, we will spend approximately 2 to 3 hours on a guided tour. Our expert guide will lead us through the main areas. This includes the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana stone, and the Room of the Three Windows.

We will delve into the mysteries and architectural genius of this ancient site. We will be learning about its history and cultural significance.

Free Time for Exploration:

After the guided tour, we will have about 1 to 2 hours of free time. You may choose to explore further, perhaps visiting the Sun Gate or Inca Bridge. It offers more stunning views and photo opportunities.

Return to Cusco:

Following our exploration, we will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included). We then catch the train back to Ollantaytambo and transfer by bus back to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon or evening. This journey allows us to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past two days.
