Early this morning, we’ll pick up your group from the hotel and head to the starting point of the trek. This first section of the trail will take us through Sacred Valley and the town of Ollantaytambo, our last opportunity to stop for supplies. Once we get to Piskacucho (Km 82) we’ll have very limited possibilities to pick up last-minute items. After we cross the Urubamba River, our adventure officially begins! The first few miles are relatively flat, with low incline. Tonight, we’ll set up camp at Wayllabamba (9,700 ft.)
We’ll start the day with a gradual hike up in elevation towards the archeological site of Llulluchapampa, above the timberline. After lunch, we’ll power up the trail to reach Warmiwañuska Pass, the summit of our hike at 14,000 ft. After celebrating our victorious arrival to the highest point on the trek, we’ll continue on down to our lunch stop. After a little break, we will continue on to the evening’s campsite at Pacaymayo, our favorite spot on the trail to stargaze and learn more about Inca “cosmovision”.
Enjoy your morning cup of tea with spectacular views of the mountains of the cloud forest enshrouded by fog. After breakfast, we’ll start trekking to the second major pass on the trail passing through the site of Runkuracay, a checkpoint with spectacular views overlooking the surrounding mountains. From here, we’ll continue to Sayacmarca, one of the most enigmatic spots on the Inca trail as well as a strategic lookout point for the Incas. After lunch, we’ll continue on Inca-paved trails passing through tunnels to reach the third pass at around 12,200 ft. Just after the pass we’ll find Phuyupatamarca, one the most remarkable examples of hydrological systems for agricultural terraces, together with several water fountains and an impressive staircase carved right out of the bedrock. We’ll hike down to Wiñaywayna, the last campsite before we get to our destination – Machu Picchu.
We will start our tour at 8:00am by driving 30 minutes from Cusco to the Alpaca farmland located in the heart of the Andes. There you will learn about the ancient textile traditions. After we will continue our tour to Pisac Archeological site and Pisac colorful market. We will have a buffet lunch served at a restaurant in the middle of the Sacred Valley. After lunch we will head back to the hotel.
According to your flight schedule we will transfer you to the airport.
The journey was spectacularly orchestrated – the perfect blend of awe-inspiring landscapes, profound historical insight, and physical challenge. Our guide was knowledgeable, accommodating, and inspiring, bringing the ancient Incan civilization to life with his detailed storytelling.
