Over the years, archeologists and historians have been searching for clues, trying to understand more about the traditions, religions and daily lives of ancient Peru’s inhabitants. At the Museo Larco and the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History, we’ll see artifacts that tell stories and give us a great deal of insight to these ancient civilizations.
Lima is home to many spectacular museums that showcase impressive collections of artifacts from ancient Peru. Our day begins with a visit to the Larco Museum, displaying an impressive 45,000 pieces representing ancient Peru as far back as 3000 years BC. We’ll also see the museum’s collection of ancient erotic art, which is without doubt one of the best attractions in the City of Lima. Our second visit takes place at the National Museum of Archeology, Anthropology, and History.
The oldest museum in Peru holds an impressive collection of pieces spanning Peru’s entire history of human occupation.
The galleries house a wide variety of ceramics, textiles, metalworks and mummies.
The most significant pieces at the museum are the monoliths, of which we can see the famous Estela of Raimondi, a perfectly carved block of stone representing an ancient god bearing a walking stick, and the Tello Obelisk, which portrays the old divinity of the Chavin Quenching.
According to archaeologists, these carved monuments date back to earlier than 1000 BC.
We’ll also visit the Tahuantinsuyo room displaying the evolution of the Inca culture.
Among this exhibit’s main attractions, we’ll see a scale model the great Sanctuary of Machu Picchu and other Inca monuments found in Peru.
It was an amazing tour of the museum in Lima.
