Galapagos giant tortoises were nearly extinct in the 19th century due to illegal hunting but today, there are extensive conservation efforts being made to save the remaining population of tortoises.
Almost every bird in the Galapagos has been spotted on Santa Cruz which makes the highlands the perfect spot for bird watching. You will be surrounded by the impressive wildlife and the unique volcanic features of the Highlands. You will get to take pictures and get quite close to the wildlife.. There are a great number of lava tunnels that can be accessed from different points on the island as well.
