Today, you’ll explore the ancient tombs of the Chauchilla cemetery where thousand-year- old mummies, bones and skulls of ancient civilizations have been uncovered. Learn about the pottery left behind by these peoples, and the significance behind their symbolic decorations.
From your hotel, we´ll head south from the town of Nazca to the archaeological site of Chauchilla. At the graveyard of Chauchilla, we’ll visit several tombs containing pottery and human remains. Your guide will tell you about the history of this site which was used over 1000 years ago by ancient civilizations. The colors of the surrounding hillsides offer an enjoyable backdrop to our experience. After exploring Chauchilla, we’ll head back to Nasca and visit a local ceramic studio where a craftsman will explain the history and significance of the ceramics found on-site, as well as give us a demonstration of how they were made.
