Itinerary

Day 1Arequipa, Cabanaconde, San Juan de Chuccho

We’ll pick you up before dawn from your hotel in Arequipa to make our nearly 4-hour journey into Colca Valley. Once we arrive in the small town of Chivay, we’ll take time to enjoy a late breakfast before we continue another 2 hours towards Cabanaconde at 3,287 meters. After lunch, we’ll begin our 4-hour descent on-foot to the river at the bottom of Colca Canyon Tour. Along the way, take time to appreciate the diverse vegetation as well as the geological formations of the canyon. Once we reach the heart of the canyon, we’ll cross the San Juan de Chuccho suspension bridge into town. Here, we’ll spend the night with a local family in basic but authentic accommodations. Take time to connect with the locals and enjoy their hospitality over dinner.
Maximum Altitude: 3,287mts
Distance travelled on-foot: 6-8 kms
Approximate Walking Time: 3-4 hours

Day 2San Juan de Chuccho – Sangalle (OASIS)

After breakfast we’ll re-commence our trek, climbing gradually to the Andean village of Tapay, which is located at 2,900 meters. We’ll visit the villages of Coshñirhua and Malata and a local church. Take the time to appreciate the local way of life, so closely connected to “Pachamama” or mother earth. Revel in these unique landscapes where ancient farming terraces, snow-capped peaks and a variety of flora and fauna converge. In the afternoon, we’ll descend back to the Colca River and the Sangalle Valley oasis at 2,100 meters and settle into our cabins for the afternoon. After lunch, you’ll have ample time to explore the abandoned mines and nearby waterfalls, fish for trout in the Colca River and most importantly, relax and enjoy the scenery.
Maximum Altitude: 2,900 mts
Distance travelled on-foot: 6-8 kms
Approximate Walking Time: 3-4 hours

Day 3San Juan de Chuccho – Sangalle (OASIS)

We’ll rise before dawn to begin the journey back to our starting point. We’ll continue on to Chivay, where we’ll have time to enjoy the healing waters of the hot springs before lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll begin our journey back to Arequipa, arriving at your hotel in the evening.
